There are many benefits to being a member of AHEAD in Texas. Notable benefits include the following:
- Subscription to the AHEAD in Texas Listserv, providing access to professional colleagues, regional resources, and job postings. Any message to the listserve must be from a currently subscribed member of AHEAD in Texas. To subscribe, please email a request to the Director of Membership and Communication.
- Membership pricing for the AHEAD in Texas annual conference.
- Discounts to other workshops subsidized by AHEAD in Texas.
- CEUs at conferences and events when available. CEU information will be maintained for one year from the date of the conference or event.
- Scholarship opportunities.
- A powerful community of knowledgeable members that share resources and provide answers to your work related questions.
Eligibility
Membership is open and available to any interested person according to the membership and dues categories identified in the AHEAD in Texas bylaws. The membership categories are listed below with the current dues. Membership currently includes current and former disability service providers as well as others interested in disability-related issues such as vocational rehabilitation counselors, other higher education staff members, students, advocates, and parents.
Membership is open and available to disability service providers in neighboring states including Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.
The membership and dues year runs from January 1 – December 31. AHEAD in Texas does not pro-rate memberships. However, if you purchase a membership in the last 3 months of any calendar year, it will be active through the December of the following year.
Note: Membership to AHEAD in Texas does not include membership to the national AHEAD organization. Membership to the national AHEAD organization does not include membership to AHEAD in Texas.
Membership Levels
Institutional
Directors/Coordinators/Counselors/Staff of Disability Services at 2 and 4 year public and private colleges and universities. This membership level includes three professional members who are eligible to hold office and have full voting privileges. This membership is not transferable unless a transfer fee is paid.
Annual Dues: $200 (Transfer Fee to transfer Membership is $15)
Professional
Directors/Coordinators/Counselors/Staff of Disability Services at 2 and 4 year public and private colleges and universities. In addition, Directors/Coordinators/Counselors/Case Managers of other agencies/professional organizations providing services to and promoting access or advocating for post-secondary students with disabilities can also serve as professional members. This membership level is eligible to hold office and has full voting privileges. This membership is not transferable unless a transfer fee is paid.
Annual Dues: $85 (Transfer Fee to transfer Membership is $15)
Associate
Former professional members, administrative/support staff at any agency/professional organization/post-secondary institution, advocates or family members of students with disabilities. This membership level is not transferable, not eligible to hold office and has no voting privileges.
Annual Dues: $45
Emeritus Professional
Individual retired from positions in higher education who were previous members of AHEAD in Texas. This membership level is not transferrable, not eligible to hold office and has no voting privileges.
Annual Dues: $20
Student
Individuals enrolled as full-time students in an undergraduate or graduate program at an institution of higher learning. This membership level is not transferable, not eligible to hold office and has no voting privileges.
Annual Dues: $20

AHEAD in Texas Scholarship Spotlights Two Recipients
Lei-Sea Sky, AHEAD in Texas Scholarship recipient for 2024
Anticipated Graduation Date: May 2025
Major: Bachelors in Social Work and Political Science at University of Texas in Arlington
Current employment: Deaf Student Mentor in the Student Access and Resource Center (SAR Center)at UTA and ASL Ambassador for SignOn.
Future goals: Enter the Master Social Work program upon graduation and complete a PhD. Lei-Sea’s goals are to write legislation for Deaf rights and focus on political social work.
Lei-Sea will be attending an exchange program Fall 2024 at Lund University in Sweden. She has been accepted as Archer Fellow for the Spring 2025 semester to intern in Washington D.C. Lei-Sea won the IDEA Fellowship from UTA and worked with the SAR Center to create the Deaf Student Mentor Program. This program was created to help incoming and current Deaf and Hard of Hearing students navigate college life. She helps students with resources outside UTA, such as working with Vocational Rehabilitation and Texas Workforce Commission.
Abigail Sorelle , AHEAD in Texas Scholarship recipient for 2024
Anticipated Graduation Date: May 2025
Major: Masters in Higher Education Administration at Texas Tech University
Current employment: Academic Counselor at the TECHniques Center at Texas Tech University.
Future goals: To provide academic support for students who need additional support to achieve their goals. One aspect of Abigail’s goal is to become an administrator for a tutoring program that specializes in providing academic support for students with learning disabilities, ADHD, and/or autism spectrum disorder. Additionally, she would like to become an instructor in courses that help students with academic development and retention.
Abigail has excelled as a tutor in the TECHniques Center Program and leads a team of tutors and runs the social media platform.
